- What is the Driver Theory Test? Answer:It is the examination which must be passed before booking or sitting a practical test
- Where and how can I book my Driver Theory Test? Answer:You can book your theory test via the Driver & Vehicle Standards Department (DVS). To do so, you'll need a valid provisional licence.
- Where can I sit the Driver Theory Test? Answer:Tests are completed at the DVS Department at La Collette. The full address is:
- What form does the Driving Theory Test take? Answer:The test is completed via a multiple choice touch screen computer interface.
- How long does the Driver Theory Test take to complete? Answer:For car and motorcycle licences, the test duration is 55 minutes. For large goods vehicles (LGV), the test duration is 115 minutes
- What language is the Driver Theory Test available in? Answer:The test is in English on screen. An English language voice over is also available
- How many different theory test papers are there? Answer:Four - cars, motorcycles, lorries and buses
- Which theory test paper will I need to sit? Answer:It depends on your provisional licence category. See table below:
- How should I prepare for my Driver Theory Test? Answer:It is important to study and familiarise yourself with The Highway Code. Jersey adopts the UK Highway Code, as well as some island specific modifications. You can access these documentations via the Gov.je website.
- Is there an app that can help me study for my Driver Theory Test? Answer:Yes! You can find the Official Islands Theory Test app on the Google Play Store (for Android) and App Store (for iPhone)
- When will I know if I passed or failed my Driver Theory Test? Answer:Straight away. You receive your results once you have completed the test.
- How long is the Driver Theory Test pass certificate valid for? Answer:Indefinitely. However, you may be required to resit the Driver Theory Test if you are required to do so as a result of a legal ruling against you.
- Once I pass my Driver Theory Test, do I need to keep my pass certificate? Answer:Yes, because you will need to provide it when booking your practical test. Should you decide to complete any further driving tests in future within the same category, your pass certificate will negate the requirement to sit the Driving Theory Test again as part of that.
